I'm struggling to come up with an adequate word, Susan. Little help, anyone?

And there's a pair of them in it, Swiss. Her and her husband, also known as my arch nemesis Johnny. I hate to give him any publicity, but these are the breaks.

Where I live, there was an American Revolutionary General named Thomas Sumter. [bear with me, there's a payoff]. His nickname was "the Fighting Gamecock" because at the time, chicken fights were legal. In a tribute to the General, my local high school and a state university became "Home of the Fighting Gamecocks" and this surly rooster was the mascot.

While I was at that university, an older military guy from New Jersey sat next to me in class. One day he said to me, "I thought in the south you people were kinda uptight and religious."

I looked at him, confused.

"I just don't get it," he concluded, pointing at a bumper sticker. "How can uptight people be so proud of their anatomy?"

The bumper sticker said, "Go 'Cocks!"

He didn't know it was an abbreviation for gamecock. We never told him.

Hope - the cake was an allusion to gamecocks. What else could it mean?

Niamh - Set it up.
